It’s become quite apparent in the past few weeks that the people who are most excited for Pixar’s Toy Story 3 (which hits theaters June 18, 2010) is Pixar themselves. They haven’t been shy in sharing their enthusiasm for the highly-anticipated animated film lately.

Construction walls have already become visible to Guests in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom as backstage ground-breaking begins for the epic Fantasyland Forest project. That means it’s only a matter of time before Guests begin to see significant changes in onstage activity for a few select Magic Kingdom attractions. What’s coming? What’s going? What’s being re-themed? Between the first installment of this two-part special and the volume you’re about to read, we’ll cover the many details that make Fantasyland Forest one of the most talked-about Imagineering endeavors in history. Let’s continue our countdown for the “catch ‘em while you can” attractions to put on your must-see list before they become Pixie Dusted away into memories.

Theme Park Headlines – New and Next, Green and Great

Walt Disney World has a volunteer-inspired day and plans an electrifying summer.

Walt Disney World has been quite the place to be during the past week. On Monday, February 8, 2010, New Orleans Saints player Drew Brees paraded through the Magic Kingdom to celebrate his team’s Super Bowl win. On Wednesday, February 10, the on-property ESPN Wide World of Sports complex was home to the 2010 What’s New and What’s Next press event, where several very exciting new projects were announced for the Floridian vacation kingdom. Then on Thursday, February 11, Epcot hosted an event to celebrate the “Give a Day, Get a Disney Day” campaign which included the likes of Kermit the Frog, Ty Pennington, Demi Lovato, Joe Jonas, and more. In the midst of all this, from Wednesday to Friday, Disney held its first-ever Social Media Moms Celebration, a conference for mom bloggers.

With a Best Picture Oscar nomination under its belt for the first time in eighteen years and an outstanding slate of upcoming projects on the horizon, the Walt Disney Company might just be at an all-time peak.

Tuesday, February 2, 2010 wasn’t just another Groundhog Day. Yes, many people across the nation anticipated the little furry mammal to stick his head out of the ground and see his shadow. Ordinarily, so would Dug, the canine star of Pixar’s Up with a collar that allows his thoughts to be vocalized. Dug has a tendency to have particular interest in creatures tinier than him (especially squirrels), but on this particular Groundhog Day his fascination of critters took a backseat—he was far more interested in a certain announcement of nominees for a prestigious cinema awards ceremony.
And with good reason, too. Thankfully Dug was not disappointed in the slightest as his phenomenal film Up was nominated not only for Academy Awards for Best Animated Film, Best Score, and Best Original Screenplay, but also for Best Picture. Yes, you read that correctly.

Theme Park Headlines – Hidden Mickey for Haiti

Learn about a special campaign to give to Haiti to find an all-new Hidden Mickey.

In the midst of the earthquake tragedy that has horribly struck Haiti, several Disney fans are spreading some cheer as only they can.
Over Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend, my friend Slippy was able to take part in the creation of a new Hidden Mickey at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort at Walt Disney World in Florida. In an effort to raise funds to help the people of Haiti, Slippy began a campaign on Disboards.com in which users donate to a charity of their choice in exchange for hints as to where the new Hidden Mickey can be specifically found.
This very unique effort is so out-of-the-ordinary and creative that it has reached the ears of Steve Barrett (author of Hidden Mickeys, Disneyland’s Hidden Mickeys, and Hidden Mickeys Go to Sea) and Lee Cockerell (former Executive Vice President of Walt Disney World Resort).
If you are interested in donating to Hidden Mickey for Haiti, please visit its Disboards thread. The campaign continues through Sunday, February 7, 2010 at noon.
